Celebrating Wayne Burdaky’s Achievement in SHEQ

Kersia are proud to celebrate with Wayne Burdaky as he nears the completion of his Level 3 SHEQ Technician apprenticeship. Wayne’s dedication, hard work, and commitment have been outstanding, and this achievement marks a significant milestone in his career journey.

Why an Apprenticeship?

Wayne has always had a strong interest in workplace safety, and an apprenticeship was the perfect fit for his career goals. “Learning on the job helps me develop skills and knowledge more effectively than theoretical study. This approach suits the way my mind works and supports my professional development.”

His manager and team have been incredibly supportive of his decision. “They encouraged me to push myself and gave me the motivation I needed to succeed. My manager provided mentorship, sharing his own experiences in SHEQ, COMAH, and Process Safety.”

Gaining Practical Experience

Wayne’s role at Kersia has allowed him to apply his learning every day. “There is no such thing as a typical day in SHEQ. I check emails, review the SHEQ app for incidents, do a site walkaround, and complete risk assessments. My role and apprenticeship go hand in hand.”

One of the most valuable skills he has developed is communication. “Clear communication ensures everyone understands safety procedures, environmental policies, and quality standards, reducing risks and ensuring compliance.”

Key Achievements

Wayne is particularly proud of two major milestones:

  1. Passing his English exam despite being dyslexic – “I worked hard, revised, and passed first time.”
  2. Leading a project to source new chemical-resistant overalls – “I researched materials, met suppliers, managed costs, and secured approval from the Operations Director.”

Looking Ahead

As Wayne nears the completion of his apprenticeship, he is excited about the opportunities ahead. “I’ve gained practical skills in risk assessment, regulatory compliance, and quality management—skills that open doors for advancement in health and safety.”

His advice to others considering an apprenticeship? “Research what you want to do, find an apprenticeship that aligns with your goals, and go for it. It’s the best career decision I’ve ever made.”

A Message of Thanks

Wayne expressed his gratitude for the support he has received. “The SHEQ team and other departments have been amazing. ‘The door is always open’ is something I kept hearing, and I made sure to take them up on their offers.”

We congratulate Wayne on his dedication and progress and look forward to celebrating his official completion soon!
